Kennall Vale Nature Reserve is the site of the Kennal Gunpowder Company, where gunpowder for the Cornish mines was made from 1812 to 1910. This is a hidden fairy tale valley lying forgotten between Falmouth and Redruth. The landscape reminiscent of a bygone age with images of childhood fairy tales and legends coming to mind as this overgrown beautiful valley is explored. Massive granite mill buildings, an abandoned weir, waterwheels, layers of once water filled aqueducts, are disappearing under layers of moss and ferns as nature reclaims them for herself. Waterfalls meandering through green shrubbery carpeted and bordered with flora such as bluebells, depending on the time of year. Trees roots retaking the ground. And a dam, once a quarry, sits peacefully. Light from the sun shines through the Beech trees which fill the sky above you. Sounds of the waterfalls and nature in the undergrowth
